A Flea (Market) Grows in Brookland!

Announcing: The Great Brookland Yard Sale!

As my partner and I were gearing up for a round of Spring cleaning, we agreed it was time to simplify and get rid of some of our stuff. The topic of a yard sale came up and we talked about how it would be a great way to spend a Saturday and to meet some more of our neighbors. Better yet, we figured we could perhaps try to coordinate with neighbors and turn this into an event to build community and to promote Brookland. Thus the idea of the Great Brookland Yard Sale was born.

After positive feedback from the Brookland listserve, we set about surveying and gathering names of interested parties. We posted a poll to get an idea on what dates worked best for the most people and started the process of vetting ideas and making new connections. As a result, we can now announce the birth of a new community event:

The Great Brookland Yard Sale!
Saturday April 19, 2008

The goals are simple:

- Provide information to coordinate participation in the event.
- Use technology to make connections, solicit input and build community.
- Promote the yard sale to a wide audience.
- Attract people to Brookland to see what a great neighborhood it is.
- Make a little money.

As we move forward information will be posted to this blog and to the Brookland list serve. Please feel free to share it with other listserves in the area (Brookland Kids, Brookland GLBT).

If you have any questions, please email Fortinandrew@hotmail.com

We look forward to working to build a fun event for all of Brookland.
And don’t forget to send in blog entries about yourself, what you like about Brookland and what items you plan on selling at your event!

St. Anthony hopes to host their outdoor event on the same day as the great Brookland sale. I just need to reserve our cafeteria.

Peace and Blessings,
MRT
