Give Something Back

A SAFE Bet?

We all know the economic crisis has hit our community hard. It has also drained support services for the most vunerable in our community. If you are looking for a place to share some of your yard sale proceeds, the Brooklandblog has been contacted by a local group that would welcome your contribution.

The Group is Safe, Inc.

SAFE, Inc. is a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides crisis intervention services for over 5,000 domestic violence victims in the District of Columbia every year.

They are the only organization that provides immediate emergency shelter 24 hours a day 7 days a week and are in need of funds to continue to provide this service. A donation of $100 buys 1 night of safe shelter for a woman and her children, and $250 provides two nights of safe shelter and one week of food to allow that family to obtain a longer-term safe place to live, legal assistance, and more. In times of economic crisis and during the Summer months, domestic violence rates rise in the District and across the country. Those two factors combined means that we are headed for a very busy time of year and need the support of District residents to serve this very vulnerable population.

Last year as the economy continued to crumble, we experienced an 11% increase in the number of clients we served. This year has shown the same increase again. I am happy to provide additional information about SAFE, Inc. for you or anyone in Brookland who are interested in supporting us. Our website is located at http://www.dcsafe.org/
