Things just keep getting better! Not only are we headed for a great, community-building yard sale event on April 19th, but soon-to-be-Brookland-based Casey Trees has announced a Tree Give away pilot program targeted to Ward 5 residents! Big yard sales and free trees - you just can't beat Brookland!

Spring is a great time to plant trees. And this spring Casey Trees and the District Department of the Environment (DDOE) have teamed up for a pilot tree giveaway event for Ward 5 homeowners.

As part of a pilot program in partnership with the District Department of the Environment, Ward 5 homeowners are eligible to receive up to two free shade trees to plant on their property this spring.

Reserve one or two trees in advance by phone or email. Provide your name and contact information and specify which of the available trees you would like from the list below.

Arrive on April 26th for this one time only pick-up event. You must pick-up your tree during the event listed below and pledge to plant the trees on your property and water them regularly.

Ward 5 homeowners are eligible to choose up to two free trees from a choice of three species:Princeton American Elm (Ulmus americana 'Princeton')River Birch (Betula nigra)Black Gum or Tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica) Tree species info.

Reserve your trees in advance by sending an email to dcshadetree@earthlink.net or by phoning 202.529.2037. A limited number of unreserved trees will be available on the pick-up date for drop-ins. Pre-registration is advised.Only Ward 5 residential property owners are eligible for this pilot tree giveaway project. We are testing this for possible expansion next year. Commercial properties and businesses, institutions and mulit-unit residences should consider applying for our Community Tree Planting Program.
